Never say die Wolverines walk off Trinity Christian

The South O’Brien softball team joined the baseball boys as each delivered a walk-off win over Trinity Christian June 27 at Paullina. The girls came from two runs down in the seventh to win 6-5 and improve to 4-5 in the War Eagle Conference.
“What an exciting finish to this game!” exclaimed Wolverine head coach Heather Struve. “We were down 5-3 going into the bottom of the seventh. With one out Addison Hedberg reached base on an error by the right fielder. Abby Nelson got walked to put runners at first and second. Kelsee Warnke replaced Hedberg and Warnke and Nelson stole third and second. Abby Woodall then drilled a double to score the two runs and tie it up. BreLee Rasmussen then grounded to third base, but the throw was errant and Woodall managed to score the winning run! Great team effort and awesome drive to never give up! This was a super conference win for our team. Alli Griebel did a fantastic job on the mound and our defense just had two errors.”

Griebel struck out three batters, walked two and hit one. Four of the Tigers’ runs were earned.
Woodall’s double was one of just three South O’Brien hits. Lindsey Einck singled and scored and Griebel also cracked a double. Nelson walked twice, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs. Tawni Wulf walked and scored.
