Hits are sparse for Wolverines in loss to St. Mary’s
by Scott Chrisman
Josie Schwickerath scattered six hits and struck out seven as Remsen St. Mary’s beat South O’Brien 5-1 June 18 at Paullina. The Hawks steadily built a 4-0 lead through the first 3-1/2 innings and then added an insurance run in the sixth.
“We just could not get more than one or two hits in any one inning to score runs,” noted Wolverine head coach Heather Struve. “The one we did score was on an error by RSM. Our defense only committed a couple errors and our pitching from Alli Griebel was pretty dang good, but we need some help from our offense. A highlight on defense was that Abby Nelson had a great double play at shortstop.
Nelson and BreLee Rasmussen each had two hits. Notching one hit apiece were Abby Woodall and Tawni Wulf. Lindsey Einck scored the Wolverines’ run, which came in the fourth inning.
Griebel went the distance, allowing seven hits. Three of the Hawks’ runs were earned. Griebel walked four batters and struck out two.
