Soggy Wolverines slug their way past Sheldon
South O’Brien pierced the rainy night with a season-high in hits and runs to blast Sheldon 15-7 June 5 at Sheldon.
“It was a tough night to play,” admitted Wolverine head coach Heather Struve. “We were soaked through….it rained from the first inning of JV all through the varsity game. I felt we were mentally tough enough to work through it and get the win.”
Playing in less than ideal conditions, the visitors caught a bug – the hitting bug. “We had a whopping 14 hits and 15 runs!” remarked Struve. “Everyone in our lineup had at least one hit. Abby Woodall was 3-for-4 from the dish and recorded three RBI’s. BreLee Rasmussen wasn’t far behind with a single and a double, 2 RBI’s and four runs. Alli Griebel and Abby Nelson were also 2-for-4 each and Nelson scored twice and Griebel knocked in a pair of runs. I was glad to see us hitting with more power all through the game tonight.”
Griebel pitched the first six innings and got the win. She allowed two hits and four runs, walked seven batters, struck out three and hit one. Tawni Wulf threw the last inning of play. She yielded three runs on two hits with a strikeout and a walk. South O’Brien committed four errors in the game.
“On a night like this weather-wise, a win can sure bring your spirits up!” said Struve. “It was a super team win tonight!”
