Horstmann is State-bound as Wolverine girls host golf Regional Final


Congratulations to South O’Brien freshman Cassidy Horstmann are in order for qualifying for the 1A State Golf Tournament as an individual. She will compete at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown on May 29-30 after placing in the top six at the Regional Final in Primghar on Wednesday, May 21. Cassidy tied for 4th with a 91, but ended up in 6th after a handicap hole card playoff. She shot 48, 43 on the day. “Cassidy practices and plays with competitiveness, especially as a freshman,” noted Wolverine coach Kris Faust. “Her willingness to work on her game has paid off this season.”
The Wolverines placed 3rd as a team behind Akron-Westfield and Newell-Fonda, missing the cut to go to State by five strokes. “Our team played well today and gave it our best shot,” said Faust. “We were disappointed, but our golfers gained valuable experience and improved tremendously this season. With one junior and five freshmen on the team, they have a lot to look forward to next year.”
The top six golfers overall at Primghar punched their tickets to play at State as individuals. Joining Horstmann are Josie Rokusek of Boyden-Hull, Avery Westphal of Alta-Aurelia, Calista Joyce of Emmetsburg, Macy DeMay of Newell-Fonda and Jordyn Sitzmann of Kingsley-Pierson.
