Wolverines’ Kleinwolterink earns honors at WEC Boys Golf Tournament
The Boys War Eagle Conference Golf Tournament was held at Willow Creek in Le Mars on May 12. South O’Brien finished ninth in the team standings with a 376 total. MMCRU was the conference champion after putting together a team score of 321.
It was a tough day for the Wolverines, but there were several positives that came from the 18-hole tournament. Senior Jace Kleinwolterink earned a medal with an 85 for 15th place. Jace also earned 2nd-team all-conference honors. He shot a 40 on the front nine, which was his personal best, and a 45 on the back. “Jace is a serious golfer who tries to stay focused and consistent,” noted South O’Brien coach Kris Faust. “He had a great regular season and is playing his best golf going into post-season play.”
Junior Alex Griebel finished just one stroke out of the medals with an 87. However, he shot a personal best 38 on the front nine. “Alex found a way today to put together a great 18-hole round,” said Faust. “I’m proud of the way he played amongst some incredible competition. Takeaway a couple holes on the back nine and he sits in a much higher spot on the leaderboard. He will bring his fierce competitiveness on Wednesday when we play at Rolling Hills for our post-season sectional meet.”
