South O’Brien’s golfers split with MMCRU in War Eagle Conference action May 8 at Marcus Golf Club. The Royals won the boys dual 165-183 but the Wolverine girls took the girls match-up 197-203 on a great night for golf.
Senior Ryan Fuller earned runner-up honors with a personal best round of 40. “It’s great to have Ryan hitting the ball so well and earning a medal in a field of great golfers,” commented Wolverine coach Kris Faust. “He was really in the groove as was senior Jace Kleinworlterink who shot a 43.” Freshman Hunter Lange tied his personal best for the season, shooting a 52. “The boys shot a few strokes better than their team average, but it just wasn’t enough to beat a strong MMCRU team,” said Faust.
Team Scores: MMCRU 165, South O’Brien 183.
Medalist: Kamden Bork (MMCRU) 39, Runner-up: Ryan Fuller (SO’) 40.
Other SO’ Varsity Scores: Jace Kleinwolterink 43, Alex Griebel 48, Hunter Lange 52, Reese Lundquist 59.
In defeating MMCRU the Wolverine girls got there score back in the 190s. Freshman Cassidy Horstmann earned runner-up honors with a 47. Lindsey Einck shot a 48 to capture the 3rd place medal. “Cassidy and Lindsey continue to lead our team,” stated Faust. “However, they aren’t satisfied with scores in the upper 40s. They are determined to do better. I expect them to peak at the conference and regional tournaments next week. Freshmen Alli and Anna Griebel shot below their averages to help our team get the win. They continue to improve and learn from experience. Freshman Addi Triplett shot a 56, which is her personal best. Her work ethic and attitude are paying off.”
