Wolverines get two wins at George-Little Rock
South O’Brien picked up a pair of War Eagle Conference wins by forfeit against George-Little Rock, which is short on golfers. The action took place April 21 at Otter Valley Country Club near George.
“It was the perfect night for golf, with warm temperatures and a slight wind,” said Wolverine coach Kris Faust. “The greens, however, had some tough pin placements, challenging our golfers. We learn and improve when we face challenges on an unfamiliar course like Otter Valley. It was good to get out and play competitively after taking a short spring break last week. I am proud of our golfers for getting out on their own to practice over the weekend. It made a difference in some of scores tonight.”
The South O’Brien boys posted a 193 team score. Since GLR does not have a varsity boys team, the South O’Brien boys battled it out for the top four spots. Junior Alex Griebel earned medalist honors, shooting a 44. Senior Jace Kleinwolterink took runner-up with a 47. Sophomore Nathan Harms took third with a 50 and senior Ryan Fuller edged out senior Reese Lundquist by one stroke to take fourth with a 52. Griebel, Lunquist, freshman Hunter Lange and freshman Jasper Johnson all posted personal bests. “It’s great to see some of our scores coming down a bit,” remarked Faust. “We need to work on consistency and the short game to continue to improve and be competitive in the WEC.”

Since GLR only has two varsity girls golfers, they cannot post a team score. South O’Brien’s winning score was 199. Wolverine freshman Cassidy Horstmann took medalist honors for the second time this season with a 45. She edged out junior Lindsey Einck by two strokes. Einck shot a 47 to earn runner-up honors. She has earned a medal at every dual this season. Freshman Alli Griebel earned the third place medal with a 51, and freshman Anna Griebel took the fourth place medal with a 56, tying her personal best for the season. Freshman Addi Triplett also shot a season-low 60 to take sixth place. The Wolverines are now 4-0 in dual meets this season. “The girls continue to shoot well and earn medals,” noted Faust. “Now, we just need to find a way to nudge our scores down a bit to move closer to the top of the WEC. Our average sits at third in the conference behind AW and Hinton.”
