South O’Brien’s boys track and field team made history by winning the inaugural Storm Lake St. Mary’s Invitational which was held April 11 at Buena Vista University.
The Wolverines were winners in five events to help push their team total to 137.5 points. Finishing first were Derek Paulsen in the 100 meters, Gabe Moermond in the 400 and Brennan Billick in the 110 meter hurdles, along with a pair of relays: the 4×100 of Damian Villarreal, Caden Wittrock, Moermond and Paulsen and the shuttle hurdle of Brennan Billick, Brett Evans, Brooks Billick and Brody Van Beek.
Placing second were Corbin Warnke, Noah Wittrock, Karson Wetrich and Ethan Schwarz in the 4×800 relay and Kaden Tjossem, Jaden Kreber, Warnke and Trayton Cobb in the distance medley relay. Brennan Billick finished third in both the long jump and 400 meter hurdles. Also in third place was the sprint medley relay group of Villarreal, Caden Wittrock, Moermond and Cobb.
