Paullina Council to Consider Higher Insurance Deductible

Kent Faust and Marcus Faust with South O’Brien Insurance presented the coming year’s insurance coverage and premium. Overall the premium increased by 10%, which, according to Kent, is much better than other jurisdictions are experiencing. The insurance coverage under the policy are property insurnace. The property to be covered is valued at $16,800,00. Other coverages, which rose a collective 40% are liability, auto, Linebacker and workers compensation. Council asked and were told they could reduce the $106,850 annual premium by increasing their deductible. Council chose to go that route, but would consider options and do that before the April 1 renewal date.
People for Pets, a Lakes area rescue, was expected to presesnt their plan for the cat nuisance in Paullina, but were unable to attend. Briefly, staff explained that they trap stray cats and rehome them. No further information was available at the meeting.
Food Truck Monday is back at the City Park. A brief discussion about the purchase of street lights for downtown was held. The agenda item was for information only. Two bids for 15 street lights were submitted. They ranged from $111,225.00 to $113,925.00.
Representatives of JZD Properties attended the meeting to discuss their interest in the former Mercy Medical Clinic. JZD Properties is based in Orange City and works with a dental firm there. Dr. Krayton Struve also attended. The project is for her practice to relocate to the larger clinic and grow her business. She is exploring a partnership with JZD Properties for long term growth of dental practices across a wider area.
