Derek Paulsen has collected several honors as the 2024-25 high school basketball season comes to a close.
Paulsen, who just completed his senior season at South O’Brien, was named to the Class 1A First Team by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA). The IBCA also named him All-Substate 1 for Class 1A. This past season the 6’3” guard led the Wolverines with 481 points, 74 assists and 86 steals, averaging nearly 22 points per game, over three assists per game and just short of four steals per game.
Paulsen has also been selected to play in the Pizza Ranch All-Star Games which will be held Saturday, March 29 at Dallas Center-Grimes High School in Grimes. His game is scheduled to start at 12:00 noon with Paulsen’s NW Boys team to play the SW Boys. For more information on the Games, go to;
