Steady Wolverines win big over HLP boys
South O’Brien played consistent winning basketball through the first three quarters on the way to a 76-37 win over Harris-Lake Park February 4 at Paullina. This game did not count in the War Eagle Conference standings.
The Wolverines outscored the visitors 22-10 in the first quarter, 23-12 in the second and 21-11 in the third to enter the fourth quarter leading 66-33.
South O’Brien shot 27-for-60 for the game (45 percent), including 10-for-30 from long distance. The three-point basket helped Derek Paulsen, Jaden Kreber and Caden Wittrock score 26, 17 and 11 points respectively. Brody Van Beek chipped in with nine points, Gabe Moermond five, Brett Evans four, Austin Negus three and Reese Lundquist one. Paulsen assisted on five of the Wolverine field goals.
The winners were 12-of-19 at the free throw line and limited their turnovers to seven. Paulsen made six steals, Moermond four and Kreber three. Lundquist blocked a pair of shots.
A number of Wolverines contributed to the team’s 34 rebounds. Foremost among them were Wittrock with seven boards, Van Beek with six, and Kreber with five.
