Sheldon/South O’Brien sends one wrestler to state from Regional meet
The Sheldon/South O’Brien wrestling girls competed at the Class 1A Region 6 state qualifying meet held January 31 at Sioux Center. The first and second place finishers advance to the Girls State Wrestling Meet to be conducted at Xtream Arena at Coralville on February 6 and 7. Qualifying for the Orabs was senior Valerie Cook who was a runner-up at 235 pounds.
South O’Brien’s Meredith Hunt wrestled at 105 pounds but did not place. The sophomore received byes into the quarterfinal round where she lost by fall to Alex Flores of Central Lyon-George Little Rock in 40 seconds. Hunt’s first consolation round match was against Katelyn Jenness and she pinned the Woodbury Central wrestler in 3:13. Her day ended in the consolation semis where she lost by fall to Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Cheyenne Williams in 1:24. Hunt compiled a season record of five wins and seven losses.
