Members From O’Brien County FFA Compete At State 4-H Meats Competition

12 members from O’Brien County 4-H competed at the State 4-H Meats competition at Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa on Saturday, November 2.
The O’Brien County 4-H Senior Team #2 was crowned Champion Team Overall. They also took home 1st Place Team Retail ID team. Gabe Moermond (11th Grade) Champion Individual, 1st Place Ind. Retail ID, 1st Place Ind. Placing. Austin Negus (11th Grade) Reserve Champion Individual. Ethan Schwarz (12 Grade) 5th Place Individual. John Puhrmann (10th Grade).
The O’Brien County 4-H Senior Team #1 took home 3rd Place Team Overall, and High Team in Questions. Jasper Johnson (9th Grade) 4th Place Individual, Noah Wittrock (9th Grade) 6th Place Individual, Sarah Puhrmann (9th Grade) 10th Place Individual, Drew Wittrock (9th Grade).
The O’Brien County 4-H Junior Team was crowned Reserve Champion Team. Brennan Negus (7th Grade) 3rd Place Individual, Karson Dau (7th Grade), Elliott Rausch (7th Grade), Karlee Sturges (7th Grade).
“For about half of our 4-H members competing today, it was their first meats contest. While being a bit nervous, I think they did a fantastic job.” stated O’Brien County Meats Coach Eric Kumm. “Our veteran senior members made some improvements from the FFA contest held earlier in the fall. I’m proud of the work all of the team members put in preparing for this event. It will be fun to see them compete a few more times at the Southwest Minnesota State University Ag Bowl and South Dakota State University Little “I” events.”
