Scare Around the Square

by Mari Radtke
It’s becoming a tradition in Primghar. Elementary students dress up in this year’s Halloween costume. In the afternoon, when the sun is shining (hopefully) and the fall temperatures reach tolerable levels, the whole school goes out for a walk around the Primghar square. The scare comes from some costumes. Some are endearing. But it’s the theme of the season.
Anyone can take a spot on the square and give treats to the trick or treaters.
This year the marched south on the west side of the square. The route took them east and then north. There they crossed the street back west and wandered the O’Brien County’s historic court house. Out they came from the other door! Then the costumed candy collectors crossed the street again and traveled back east, completing a trip around the square.
Thursday was a terrific day for the event. All sides of the town center had lots of treats to offer.
