Archer Council Sets Public Hearing for Sale of Property
by Mari Radtke
The Archer City Council passed a resolution approving the sale of an empty lot on the north end of Main Street. The public hearing is set for Tuesday November 12 at its next regular meeting. The public can learn more about the planned buyer and plans for the property or make a counter offer for council to consider. Council is to make decision in the city’s best interest.
Jeremy and Amy Rohwer offered $500.00 for the empty lot. They plan to construct a facility to manufacture and package kettle corn for distribution to retail outlets. The Rohwers already operate a kettle corn stand at outdoor festivities. The South O’Brien Community School District Board of Education approved the kettle corn as a fundraising item for the benefit of FFA in conjunction with their annual fruit sale. Archer Council approved the terms of the sale at their September regular meeting.
The claims approved by the Archer council were amended to include a newer invoice from Town & Country that finalized the costs of the dumpster that was made available for a city wide cleanup and flood cleanup. That lastest monthly claim list was approved.
Work continues on the delinquent utility bills. The entire list has been wittled down to a handful of known and collectable accounts. The fire department tax to townships was also considered. Carroll Township has not paid yet for the current or the prior year for its fire protection. Fire Chief Don DeBoer is looking into the matter. Council approved an increase from $189 per section to $198 per section, the maximum recommended in a single year.
A snow plow driver is being sought for Archer for the upcoming snow season. The position is as needed and pays $21.50 per hour. Interested persons can contact any city council member or the mayor.
Archer Council went into closed session with City Attorney Micah Schreurs. No decisions were publicly announced.
The Archer council is actively looking for volunteers to help with putting up snow fence.
