Twenty-eight members of the South O’Brien FFA Chapter participated in presenting to 107 third graders from Graettinger-Terril, Sioux Central, and Cherokee at Grandpa’s Barn on the Wednesday of the Clay County Fair.
Abby Woodall stated, “I talked to the kids about Dairy Calves. It was a fun experience and I enjoyed looking at the exhibits around the fair when I wasn’t presenting.”
Members selected an area of interest (sheep, goats, alpacas, dairy calves, highland cattle, swine, poultry, corn, soybeans, and cover crops) and presented on their topic to groups of third graders as they rotated to each station.
Kate Dau stated, “This was my second year teaching the kids about sheep. I prepared a 6 minute speech which covered how to raise and train sheep. It was a very fun experience.”
