Wolverine runners open their season at Cherokee meet

South O’Brien’s cross country runners saw their first competition of the season Friday, August 30 at the Deb Hankens Cross Country Meet at Cherokee Golf & Country Club. The meet was originally scheduled for Thursday but threatening weather caused it to be postponed a day.
The six Wolverine boys runners all competed at the varsity level. Freshman Landen Davenport finished 22nd. Next were seniors Ethan Schwarz and Bensen Rohwer who placed 33rd and 38th, respectively. Sophomore Corbin Warnke finished 39th, one place ahead of senior Caleb Buenger. Placing 45th was junior Asa Flinders. The team total was 172, slotting the Wolverines in seventh.
The two South O’Brien girls also ran at the varsity level. Hailei Wallinga finished 34th and Tricia Kilts 36th. Both are seniors. With only the two runners, the Wolverines were not able to compete as a team.
