Obituary – Bobby J. Back

Bobby J. Back Sutherland, Iowa

Bobby J. Back, age 90 of Sutherland, Iowa passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa. His funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the Sutherland Church of Christ with Pastor John Erickson, officiating.
Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley.
Visitation with family present will be from 9:30 to 10:45 A.M. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the Sutherland Church of Christ.

American Legion Post #152 of Sutherland, Iowa
Arrangements are under the care of the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.
Bobby James Back of Sutherland, Iowa passed away on August 17, 2024 at the age of 90 years and 11 months. He was born in Macon, Missouri, son of Peter Frederick Back and Goldine Marie Gifford Back. Bobby lived his youth in Hartley area, graduating from Hartley High School in 1952. After high school he was employed by Midwest Crib and Silo as a crew manager. In 1956 to 1958, he served honorably in the United States Army.
On November 8, 1959, Bobby was united in marriage to Mary Virgene Vannordstrand in Hartley, Iowa. In 1961, they moved to a farm south of Sutherland, Iowa. Together they farmed and raised five children. Bobby was well known for his large garden and apple orchard, he gave away much produce to his neighbors, friends, and family. He was a proactive soil conservationist.
Bobby was baptized in the Sutherland Church of Christ where he attended services.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, David and Arthur Back, sisters-in-law, Marjorie and Ruth Back and Nancy Vannordstrand and brother-in-law, Robert Kullmer.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Marvin J. Back and his wife, Gina; daughter, Cynthia M. Fintel and her husband, Daniel; son, William J. Back and his wife, Kathy; son, Jacob F. Back and his wife, Jennifer; son, Daniel M. Back and his wife, Becky. Siblings, brothers, Peter W. Back, Larry Back and his wife, Julie and sister, Patricia Burrows and her husband, William, and sister-in-law, S. Vaneta Kullmer, brother-in-law, John Vannordstrand and his wife, Joan. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
