Labor Day Weekend Sutherland Road Closures
by Mari Radtke
Labor Day weekend in Sutherland is always full of festivities, friends and food. Some of that requires a little inconvenience to automobiles. It’s easier when you plan ahead.
The Sutherland Council gave official approval for several street closures for specific events.
An adult softball tournament received approval to use the ball fields and concession stand Saturday. The may still be time to register a team. Check Facebook for availability.
Main Street from 1st to 2nd Streets will be blocked from Saturday through Monday at 2:00am. Sweeney’s Clubhouse and Legacy’s Bar and Grill outdoor liquor licenses were approved. Street dances are to be announced with approval of street lights on that block to be turned off during performances.
Church of Christ holds an annual 5K/1Mile Family Fun Run or Walk. It is always held on Saturday morning starting 7:00am. Oak Street closure in front of Church of Christ received the council’s stamp of approval.
Sunday is all about vehicles. And shopping. But street closures were approved to give space for a car show and for the hugely popular burn out contest. 1st Street from Ash to Pine Street is closed Sunday, September 1 from 10:00am until 4:00pm. Get there early for great seating for the burnout contest. Or bring your horsepower to burn some rubber. The car show, which is also open to motorcycles, sport vehicles such as ATVs, even tractors, takes over Main Street and a small portion of 2nd Street. Main Street from 2nd Street to 3rd Street will be close Sunday from 11:00am until 3:00pm. 2nd Street from the alley on the east side of Security State Bank to and Main Street.
It’s a busy weekend with a craft show at Willoway, City Wide Garage Sales and Sidewalk Sales, food everywhere, a parade and much more.
The Sutherland Library invites the public to help celebrate its 100th year of delivering free media and creating a learning and social environment for everyone! Join them for cake immediately following the parade.
