South OíBrien Construction Updates

by Mari Radtke
Major renovations are planned for the current Ag building on the north side of Groesbeck Street in Paullina. The idea is to convert it to the administrative building. The south addition of that structure, which includes bus barns, was built in 1963. Inexplicably the south 30 feet of the building was constructed in the Right of Way of the city. There is also some confusion for the proper titling of the owner. The school district has gone through some name changes since 1963.
Research and discussion is ongoing to to resolve both the property line issue and the proper name of the actual owner.
Construction projects at the Primghar building are reported to be progressing as planned. In addition to restoring the stage for fine arts performances district wide and relocating the new auditorium seats in the east gym in Paullina to the Elementary, bathrooms are completely gutted and to be completely redone. Several walls on the second floor, west wing have been removed to make the classrooms closer to the same size. Small classrooms at the south end of both the ground level and second floor of the east wing are also removed for remodeling.
Locating water shutoffs at the Paullina building was a challenge for a while, but seems to be resolved. Finding a shut off in the locker room now allows the project inside to move forward. Superintendent Wade Riley reported that the Junior High/High School will have access to its own water shut offs.
The steady rainfall has slowed outside work.
