Wolverines come away with tight win against Ridge View

By Coach Heather Struve
The Raptors from Ridge View were up 4-0 through three innings of play June 4 at Galva when South O’Brien finally got the bats going. In the top of the fourth with one out Ashlynn Gunnerson, Tawni Wulf and Alli Griebel hit three singles in a row. Griebel had an RBI on her hit and the other two runs came in on wild pitches to cut the lead to 4-3. Neither team scored in the fifth.
In the top of the sixth Griebel drew a walk and was replaced on the bases by Avery Halverson to run. Halverson stole second and came to third on the overthrow. She then made it home on a wild pitch to tie up the game. With one out Abby Nelson got hit by a pitch and later scored on an RBI groundout from Reese Farquhar. The Raptor pitcher really started struggling in the later innings and we capitalized on it. This was a fun come from behind victory!
Wulf started in the pitching circle, but only went 2-1/3 innings before being replaced by Griebel to close out the game. Wulf gave up four runs (three earned), walked three and struck out one. Griebel did not give up any runs on just one hit, three walks and three strikeouts. For an eighth grader making her pitching debut she did a great job of keeping things under control and remaining calm to earn the win.
Wulf ripped two singles and scored a run. Griebel had an RBI single and her courtesy Halverson scored two runs. Getting a hit and a run apiece were Nelson and Gunnerson. Brooklyn Edwards and Lindsey Einck each recorded a single.
