Westerners get shutout win over South O’Brien
Akron-Westfield ran its record to 11-1 with a 10-0 win over South O’Brien in five innings June 7 at Akron. The score was 2-0 through three innings before the Westerners tallied four times in the fourth inning and then four more in the fifth to end it. The loss dropped the Wolverines to 1-5 in the War Eagle Conference and 3-8 on the season.
There were just two baserunners for South O’Brien. Damian Villarreal singled and Brody Van Beek drew a base on balls. Winning pitcher Nathan Gaswint pitched four innings for Akron-Westfield with Laytin Koch taking the fifth inning.
The Wolverines’ Alex Griebel went all 4-2/3 innings on the mound. The 10 runs were all earned. Griebel allowed 13 hits and walked one batter. There were two errors committed behind him.
