South O’Brien comeback falls short against Tigers
South O’Brien found itself four runs down against Trinity Christian. The Wolverines cut the deficit in half but ended up with a 5-3 setback May 22 at Paullina.
The Tigers broke the scoring ice with three runs in the top of the third. South O’Brien got a run in the bottom of the inning. Trinity added two more runs in the fourth to go up 5-1. The Wolverines tallied twice in the fifth to conclude the scoring.
Ben Woodall’s three hits included a double. He also scored two runs. Gabe Moermond had two hits and a walk and scored a run. Brett Evans delivered a two-run single. The other RBI went to Trevor Fiddelke. Damian Villarreal and Ryan Fuller each recorded a single and Mitchell Enger drew a base-on-balls.
Woodall pitched 4-1/3 innings and took the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits. He walked six batters and struck out six. Fiddelke went the final 2-2/3 innings on the mound, allowing just one hit and striking out six. He walked two batters and hit one. The Wolverines were guilty of one error.
