SOCS FFA Competes in Sub-District and District

Members from the South O’ Brien FFA Chapter participated in the Northeast Sub-District and Northwest District contests. The Sub-District contest was held at Iowa Lakes Community College, and the District competition was held at MOC-FV High School in Orange City. Members participated in contests such as Ag Broadcasting and Ag Sales.
Tawni Wulf, who participated in the Ag Broadcasting contest, presented a five-minute broadcast as if she were a farm director or reporter for a radio station. This event is intended to foster an understanding and create an interest in the field of broadcast journalism. Tawni earned 2nd place and a Silver at Sub-Districts and advanced to Districts where she placed 7th and earned a Bronze rating. Tawni stated “ To prepare for the competition, I made multiple news broadcasts about markets, news, and the weather until I knew what I needed to put into my final broadcast for the competition. For this being my first time in this type of competition, I was happy with how I performed. I liked that we got to connect with other people from different schools at the competition.”
In the Ag Sales competition, Bensen Rohwer used a chicken nesting box for his sales product. The purpose of this event is to prepare FFA members in developing skills and techniques important toward becoming successful salespersons of agricultural products. Bensen earned 3rd place and a Gold at Sub-Districts, and 5th place and a Silver at Districts.
