West Sioux hangs on to beat Wolverines girls
A valiant comeback attempt fell just short for South O’Brien. The Wolverines trailed West Sioux 42-28 early in the fourth quarter but were within one point in the final seconds when their go-ahead three-point try failed to find the mark. The miss allowed the Falcons to escape with a 51-50 War Eagle Conference victory February 5 at Paullina. The game had been rescheduled from January 12 because of poor weather conditions.
Reese Farquhar and Addison Hedberg did hit treys to get South O’Brien back in it. Each nailed a trio of three pointers for the game. Farquhar totaled 15 points and Hedberg nine. The leading scorer was actually Marissa Ebel, who went 7-for-14 from the field and 2-for-6 from the line to finish with 16 points. Lindsey Einck added six points and Chloe Hustedt two. Scoring one point apiece were Abby Nelson and Jaylah Jackson. Facilitating a number of those scores were Hedberg, with four assists, and Hustedt and Farquhar with three apiece.
The top rebounders were Ebel and Einck, each with six. Hedberg made four steals and Ebel two. The Falcons were guilty of 20 turnovers while South O’Brien committed just nine.
West Sioux made even better use of the three-point shot, going 9-for-19 from long range. Overall, the Falcons were 18-of-42 from the field to shoot 43 percent. South O’Brien made 19 of its 51 shots for 37 percent. From the free throw line West Sioux was 6-of-16 and the Wolverines 6-of-14.
