Wolverine boys score late to beat Remsen St. Mary’s
Jaden Kreber scored a layup with 1.5 seconds left to lift South O’Brien to a 52-50 victory over Remsen St. Mary’s January 25 at Remsen. It was the Wolverines’ second win over St. Mary’s this season.
Kreber scored four points in the game. Leading the way for South O’Brien was Willie Conley with 15 points. David Bottjen added 12 points, Ben Woodall 10, Derek Paulsen nine and Aaron Funkhouser two.
The Wolverines were 20-of-44 from the floor for 46 percent. Assists led to all but four of those baskets. The top facilitators were Conley, Paulsen and Kreber who each had three assists. South O’Brien was good on seven of its 19 trey attempts and five of its nine free throw tries. The Hawks shot 37 percent with 19 hoops in 51 attempts. They were 6-of-19 from three-point range and 6-of-10 from the charity stripe.
With 25 rebounds, the Wolverines were only two short of the Hawks’ total. Conley pulled down eight rebounds while Paulsen and Justice Frerk each collected six. Paulsen and Woodall each made a steal. Turnovers were limited to seven for St. Mary’s and nine for the visitors.
