William John Lenz

William John Lenz, 96, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Sutherland, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Accura Nursing Home in Cherokee, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Mike Agnew will officiate. Visitation will take place from 12:30 p.m. until service time at Boothby Funeral Home. Burial will be in Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland, Iowa. Military rites will be performed at the graveside. Services will be livestreamed on the Boothby Funeral Home website through the assistance of Fuller Digital Solutions. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
William John Lenz, son of William and Bertha (Brehmer) Lenz, was born on January 26, 1927 in Holstein, Iowa. On March 29, 1947, William married Mary Jo Korelski in LeMars, Iowa. Bill served in the United States Army and was a World War II Veteran. Following their marriage, they made their home in Cherokee County working on various farms. They moved to Sutherland in 1964. He worked at Wilson’s Packing Plant in Cherokee for many years until his retirement.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Jo Lenz in 2002, and daughter Debra Brown, sister Lorraine Benson, and granddaughter Christina Mills.
He is survived by three sons, Ron Lenz and his wife Linda of Remsen, Iowa, John Lenz and his wife Shelly of Sutherland, Iowa, and Dan Lenz of Rock Valley; two daughters, Regina Mills and her husband Alan of Sutherland, Iowa, and Joyce Ballenger and her husband Barry of Kearney, Missouri; one son-in-law Tom Brown of Hyde, Park, New York, husband of the late Debby Brown; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; also special friend, Corinne Malzer.
