Wolverine girls get conference win over Harris-Lake Park
South O’Brien captured its first War Eagle Conference win of the season by downing Harris-Lake Park 33-24 December 19 at Paullina. The Wolverines enter the Christmas break with a 1-4 conference mark and an overall record of 2-7.
The balanced South O’Brien scoring included eight points from Marissa Ebel, six from both Addison Hedberg and Chloe Hustedt, five from Reese Farquhar, four from Lindsey Einck and two each from Abby Woodall and Jaylah Jackson. The assists leaders were Hustedt with three and Abby Nelson with two. The Wolves’ Gracie Gunderson led all scorers with 13 points.
Neither team shot the ball particularly well but the Wolverines had the edge. South O’Brien made 13 of its 47 field goal attempts for 28 percent. The Wolves were at 19 percent with eight baskets in 42 tries. Each team made a trio of three-pointers. From the free throw line Harris-Lake Park was 5-of-9 and the Wolverines 4-of-9.
South O’Brien won the battle of the boards 36-21. Einck pulled down 12 rebounds and Ebel grabbed 10. Farquhar and Ebel each stole the ball three times. The Wolves were guilty of 17 turnovers while the home team committed 22.
