Wolverine boys take care of Harris-Lake Park
South O’Brien closed out the 2023 potion of the schedule with a 58-35 War Eagle Conference win over Harris-Lake Park December 19 at Paullina. The Wolverines had things well in hand at halftime, leading 36-19. Christmas break finds South O’Brien atop the conference standings at 5-0. The Wolverienes’ season record is a spotless 8-0.
The home team came away with 15 steals and held the Wolves to 14 made field goals. Harris-Lake Park had a total of 23 turnovers compared to just seven for the Wolverines. Leaders in the thievery department were Willie Conley with five steals and David Bottjen with four.
Harris-Lake Park’s 14 baskets came on 43 attempts as the Wolves shot 33 percent. South O’Brien was 21-of-57 from the floor for 37 percent. Harris-Lake Park hit five shots from three-point distance and the Wolverines four. South O’Brien attempted 16 free throws and made 11. The Wolves sank three of their seven charity tosses.
The Wolverine scoring showed Derek Paulsen with 21 points, Conley with 12, Bottjen and Justice Frerk with six apiece, Ben Woodall with five, Caden Wittrock and Jaden Kreber with three each and Gabe Moermond with two. Conley and Paulsen each contributed three assists. Paulsen also came down with seven of the team’s 21 rebounds.
The three-pronged scoring attack of the Wolves featured Lucas Ahrenstorff with 11 points, Justus Voss with 10 and Duane Ingham with nine.
