The Paullina City Council met in regular session (with Claims)

The Paullina City Council met in regular session on December 18, 2023 in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 127 S Main St, Paullina, Iowa. Mayor Brenda Ebel Kruse called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. & led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call. Council Members present: Jean Unrau, Lexy Murphy, Jay Jones, Carol Honkomp, and Steve Heeren. Mayor Ebel Kruse declared a quorum.
Also present: City Clerk Michelle Wilson, Superintendent of Utilities Kelly Top, Police Chief Nathan Bremer. Guests: Marlin Sjaarda, Nichole Jacobs, and Shawn Strubbe. Press: Radtke.
Motion by Heeren; second by Murphy to approve agenda. All ayes. Motion carried.
Motion by Murphy; second by Unrau to approve 12/04/23 regular meeting minutes. All ayes. Motion carried.
Motion by Heeren; second by Murphy to approve payment of claims. All ayes. Motion carried.
Council was updated with bank reconciliation from February and March 2023.
Mayor Ebel Kruse swore in newly elected city officials. The Oath of Office was taken by newly appointed Mayor-Marlin Sjaarda; Council Members-Nicole Jacobs and Jean Unrau.
Motion by Murphy; second by Unrau to approve for Resolution 23-46 to approve the South O’Brien Music Booster’s can cage relocation agreement. Roll call vote: Ayes: Unrau, Murphy, Jones, Honkomp and Heeren. Nays: none. Resolution passed.
Motion by Murphy; second by Heeren for Resolution 23-47 to approve temporary Employee Sharing Service Agreement with the City of Hartley for Wastewater Treatment testing. Roll call vote: Ayes: Unrau, Murphy, Jones, Honkomp, and Heeren. Nays: none. Resolution passed.
Council received the Paullina Little League Report.
Motion by Murphy; second by Unrau to approve payment for the inspection, and allow the CAPS Program to obtain quotes for asbestos remediation for the old Iowa State Bank building. All ayes. Motion carries.
Motion by Honkomp; second by Unrau to approve Class B Liquor License for Dollar General #20191. All ayes. Motion carries.
Motion by Heeren; second by Honkomp to accept the resignation of Airport Manager Brian Fisch. All ayes. Motion carries.
Motion by Honkomp; second by Murphy to approve the application for Gavin Heeren as firefighter. All ayes. Motion carries.
Motion by Murphy; second by Unrau to approve Resolution 23-48 to set January 2024 Council Meeting dates as January 2nd and 16th at 5:30pm. Roll call vote: Ayes: Unrau, Murphy, Jones, Honkomp, and Heeren. Nays: None. Resolution passes.
Motion by Murphy; second by Jones to adjourn the meeting at 6:16pm. All ayes. Motion carries.
