Trinity hits from outside to down Wolverine girls

Trinity Christian nailed eight three-point baskets in topping South O’Brien 42-26 December 12 at Paullina. The Tigers’ Alyce Brummel knocked down four treys and Makiah De Jager hit three more as the visitors took the War Eagle Conference contest.
“In the first half defensively we really hung in there,” observed Wolverine head coach DJ Hansen. “We gave up one or two threes to the shooters was all, but we did a poor job of boxing out. Most of their points were off second or third shots. Offensively we just came out flat. Everybody was waiting for somebody else to attack. We did a good job of breaking the press tonight, which is an improvement, but really struggled in the half court.”
Hansen continued, “In the second half, we struggled again to score in the third quarter and after a while our defense started to slip. We let their best shooter end up with four three pointers and their best player, number 12, was available to get loose on the three-point line as well. In the fourth quarter we finally started to attack a little more offensively. Chloe Hustedt really led the charge. She did a good job of catching and ripping and driving to the hole, got us a layup, got fouled, hit a three pointer. I think fundamentally we are getting there. We now just have to work on our mindset. We will look to be more aggressive and attack more in offense this weekend.”
Hustedt scored seven points, Addison Hedberg and Marissa Ebel five each, Lindsey Einck four, Reese Farquhar and Abby Nelson two apiece and Jaylah Jackson one. Hustedt passed for two assists. Einck grabbed seven rebounds and Farquhar six. Ebel had two steals and Jackson made two blocks.
Trinity outshot the Wolverines 26 percent (13-of-50) to 22 percent (9-of-41). South O’Brien was just 2-of-16 from long range and sank six of 10 free throws. The Tigers were 8-of-13 at the line and committed 17 turnovers. The home team turned the ball over 23 times.
