A total of nine wrestlers competed for Sheldon/South O’Brien at the Paul Fuhrman Invite held December 16 at Cherokee. Among them was heavyweight Jack Leng who won all three of his matches to finish in first place. The Orabs totaled 97 points to place eighth in the team standings. Cherokee’s attempt to capture its own event was thwarted by a powerful Akron-Westfield squad which finished with 234 points. The Braves were second at 184.
Leng pinned Kingsley-Pierson’s Jacob Kraft in 1:07 and Christian Witt of Sioux Central in 1:08. In the 1st Place Match, Leng won a 3-1 decision over Jace Henderson of MVAOCOU.
Devin Van Regenmorter, at 157 pounds, and Landon Sietstra, at 215, each won a 3rd Place Match. Van Regenmorter scored a 10-6 decision over West Sioux’s Braylon Lopez, a wrestler who had pinned Van Regenmorter earlier on. Sietstra decisioned MVAOCOU’s Jacob Mitchell by a score of 5-2.
Kolt Roos finished fourth at 175 and Victor Topete was sixth at 165. Marshal Warnke recorded two pins at 132 pounds but also lost twice and did not place. Dominic Rounds dropped both of his matches at 126.
