A “New” ProGo in Primghar

By Mari Radtke
The board of Producers Coop considered the needs of its C-Store in Primghar for some time before the project could move forward. Original plans were to have the extension to the south complete by winter 2022. That didn’t work, but effort continued. Groundbreaking began in March 2023.
Operations were moved across the street to the former “Shortees” while the interior of ProGo was completely gutted. The improvements are more than cosmetic. A modern restroom facility is part of the extension. A huge refrigeration system, a “beer cave” is also part of the new space. “It’s gi-normous!” said ProGo manager Mackenzie Villarreal. The walk-in cooler is for more than just beer. It has cases of water and soft drinks chilled for the public.
The kitchen offerings remain mostly the same. Chicken and pizza remain on the menu. Daily lunch specials continue. Currently the subs are pre-packaged, but available. The cooler at that greets the public features individual desserts and lighter fair like fruit cups and yogurt. The bakery case features additional choices with more coming soon.
A specialty coffee bar has been added. A brewer is on the way to make preparing the choices easier for staff. A few additional grocery items have also been added to the increased cooler and shelf space.
Inside ProGo is brighter and fresher with new furniture, lighting and fresh paint.
Fuel options continue offering diesel, regular and an assortment of ethanol blends. ProGo continues to meet its demand.
The upgraded C-Store reopened for business in mid-September.
