South O’Brien concluded its cross country season October 19 at the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet held at Spencer Municipal Golf Course. None of the Wolverine runners were able qualify for this week’s State Meet.
Senior Ben Woodall came close to moving on as he finished 14th at Spencer. The top 10 individuals in Class 1A advance to State. As for the other South O’Brien boys, freshman Trayton Cobb placed 55th, junior Brett Evans was 66th, junior Ethan Schwarz finished 70th, senior Ian Oliver came in 73rd, junior Caleb Buenger placed 77th and junior Bensen Rohwer was 88th.
The team qualifiers for the boys were Woodbine, with a total of 36, and Sibley-Ocheyedan with a 69 total. The Wolverines were 10th out of 11 teams with a total of 228.
A pair of South O’Brien runners competed in the girls race. Senior Elodie Wilson finished 27th and junior Hailei Wallinga was 68th. Girls teams punching their tickets to State were Woodbine and Hinton. Woodbine ran to a 50 total while the Blackhawks were just two behind at 52.
