South O’Brien Marching Band Competes

South O’Brien Marching Band marched in two field marching competitions. They performed in Sheldon at the Iowa High School Music Association State Marching Band Festival on Saturday, October 7 where they received a received a Division I rating.
The band is pictured above at the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band competition in Orange City on October 14 where they received 1st place in Class 1A. In addition the band also earned Best Drum Majors, Best Effect, Best Music and Best Color Guard. The fans at the competition helped the band win the Triple S Award for Support, Spirit and Sportsmanship. The 2023 South O’Brien Marching Band’s show title is THAT 80s SHOW. With music from some of the biggest hits from the 1980s: Jump by Van Halen, Push It by Salt n Pepa, I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston and Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey. The band is under the command of drum majors Ashlynn Gunnerson and Claire Wagner and directed by Becky Meyer. The color guard is directed by Michelle Aberson with choreography by Michelle Aberson and Priscilla Jenness.
