“I thought offensively and defensively we played our best half of football in the first half,” stated South O’Brien head coach Mark Fuhrman. “We had a nice drive at the opening of the game but weren’t able to punch it in for the score. We also had a couple

defensive stops in the first half to keep the score at 7-0. In the second half we gave up a couple long runs and just couldn’t put a drive together.”
Justice Frerk passed for 111 yards and was intercepted twice. Willie Conley caught four passes for a total of 34 yards. The leading rusher was Justin Paulsen with 63 yards on 20 carries.
Akron-Westfield ran the ball 39 times for 336 yards. Leading tackler for the Wolverines was Mitchell Enger with 10, including seven solo stops. Luis Salazar was credited with seven solos and one assist with David Bottjen adding five solos and two assists.
Seniors playing their last game for the Wolverines were Bottjen, Conley, Cole Cox, Enger, Frerk, Aaron Funkhouser, Josh Gnade, Colin Odenbrett, Paulsen, Salazar and Cole Tjossem. “For the first game all year we had all of our seniors on the field and playing in the game,” noted Fuhrman.
