Wolverines blanked by Gehlen Catholic
Gehlen Catholic celebrated Homecoming by shutting out the South O’Brien football squad 33-0 October 6 at Le Mars. The loss dropped the Wolverines to 1-4 in Class A District 1 and 1-6 overall.
The Jays enjoyed a 13-point first quarter and led 27-0 at halftime. They added another score in the fourth quarter.
For South O’Brien, Justice Frerk was 6-of-16 passing for 82 yards and was intercepted twice. Derek Paulsen caught three passes for 53 yards. The leading ground-gainer was Justin Paulsen with 20 carries and 81 yards.
On the defensive side, Mitchell Enger made eight tackles and Justin Paulsen seven. The visitors got six stops each from David Bottjen and Josh Gnade and five from Cole Tjossem.
The Wolverines finish the season at home October 13 against district leader Akron-Westfield. The Westerners are 5-0 in district play. Their only loss on the season was a one-point 7-6 decision in favor of Ridge View. Last week they blanked Alta-Aurelia 25-0.
