On Thursday, September 7th, 2023, the O’Brien County Soil & Water Conservation District hosted the 55th O’Brien County 6th Grade Outdoor Classroom.  The 6th grade students from Hartley Melvin Sanborn, Sheldon Community, South O’Brien, Sanborn Christian, and their teachers along with chaperones spent the day at the Prairie Heritage Center.
They began their day with cookies, milk or juice sponsored by Western Iowa Dairy Alliance, Ken’s Feed Store, Nicolson & Edward Grain, and the O’Brien County Soil & Water Conservation District.
Sessions included: Predator/Prey (Sarah Fiddelke of the Prairie Heritage Center), Fishing (Michael Sundall- Pheasants Forever) Spears (Luke Davison – PHC), Soil Health (Andrew Koehlmoos – NRCS), Nature Scavenger Hunt – (Kaarina Van Berkum – Sioux County State Technician), Prairie  Life (Kerisa Pingel – Sanford Museum), Water Olympics (Riley White- NRCS), Furs- (Lindsey Kleinhesselink- Prairie Heritage Naturalist) and  Bees – (Philip Westra – Sanborn Christian Reformed Church),
