Highly-ranked Hinton spoils Wolverines War Eagle opener
South O’Brien was handed a tough assignment for its War Eagle Conference volleyball opener. The Wolverines entertained Hinton August 29 at Paullina. The Blackhawks, who are ranked second in Class 2A, swept South O’Brien 25-5, 25-14 and 25-9.
Hinton recorded 38 kills while the Wolverines managed just seven. South O’Brien players with multiple kills were Marissa Ebel with three and Brooklyn Edwards with two. Ashlynn Gunnerson assisted on each of the team’s kills.
The host team made 23 digs, led by Abby Nelson with eight, Gunnerson with five and Reese Farquhar with four. South O’Brien was good on all but three of its 24 serves. Taylor Wulf was 5-for-5 serving, while Gunnerson and Ebel were each 4-for-4.
