Wolverines’ first week of volleyball is a busy one
South O’Brien got in some early-season volleyball with two nights of action last week. The Wolverines participated in the Spencer’s Early Bird Tournament on August 22 and then hosted MVAOCOU and Westwood in a triangular August 24 at Paullina.
Spencer’s Tourney was actually held at Okoboji High School due to the lack of air conditioning at the Spencer Fieldhouse. South O’Brien opened against Algona. The Bulldogs won the match 2-0 by scores of 21-18 and 21-15. In fact, Algona went undefeated on the day. Next up for the Wolverines was Okoboji. Again it was a straight-sets loss for South O’Brien, which fell to the Pioneers 21-18 and 21-16. That set up a match between the third-place teams from each pool with the Wolverines squaring off against Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. This installment in the rivalry went to South O’Brien 2-0 by identical 21-13 scores.
Back home again on Thursday, the Wolverines lost both of their matches. MVAOCOU won the best-of-three format by scores of 25-15 and 25-20. Then it was the Rebels coming out on top 25-13 and 25-17.
As of press time, no stats were available for the matches.
