William (Bill) Lewis Simm

Hallelujah! Bill is there now, wrapped in the Father’s arms, finally, most definitely, home. That is something to celebrate! Give Vi (Mom, Grandma, Friend) a hug from us all. William “Bill” Simm went home on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Prairie View Home, Sanborn. Bill was born June 24, 1922 in O’Brien County, the son of John and Gertrude Simm. He grew up on farms primarily in the Paullina area where he attended country school and graduated from Paullina High School in 1942. Nine months later he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country as a Sergeant on an anti-aircraft unit in France and Germany. When the war ended, he returned to Paullina in 1946 where he met Violet Oldewurtel while she was working at Farmers Elevator in Paullina. They were married October 8, 1946 where they farmed north of Paullina until he retired in 1987. They then moved into a home in Paullina. Bill took pride in his Appaloosa horses that he raised and belonged to the Town and Country Saddle Club. When he moved into Paullina he was active in the American Legion and the Lions Club.
Survivors include six children, William (Kendall) of Sandpoint, Idaho, Kent (Connie) of Seal Rock, Oregon, Bruce (Pam) of Paullina, Joyce (Doug) McIntosh of Alexandria, Minnesota, Beth (Brian) Massmann of Paullina, Laura (Don) Palmer of Paullina, 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and his friend Joyce Seydell of Sioux Falls S.D. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a brother and sister.
Graveside services will be at 10:30am on August 26th at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, IA.
