Janice Jean Bare was born on December 7, 1945, to Fred and Emma (Ryan) Smith in St. Joseph, Missouri. She grew up in Missouri where she attended school in Savanah.
Janice later met her husband, Larry, and the two of them united in marriage on November 10, 1970, together they had two children, Shelley, and Troy, who were welcomed by their older sister, Kristie.
Janice and Larry moved to Primghar, Iowa in 1978, where they called home. Janice enjoyed fishing the river and the lakes with her family and friends. 35 years ago on July 26th, Janice found a 12-step program that changed the direction of her life, and her family’s life. She became very active in that program and made many new friends. She taught all of her kids and grandchildren how to swim, but when fall and winter rolled around, you would find her planning her days around when the Kansas City Chiefs were playing. She enjoyed calling and talking to her family on game days about what the Chiefs were or were not doing right.
Janice’s greatest joys in life were her grand kids, and great grand kids. She would travel all over to watch them participate in sports, or just to spend the day with them. She would have family over as often as she could and wasn’t going to miss out on any of the gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Emma Smith, her husband, Larry Bare, son, Troy Bare, sister, Louise Miller, and brother Bub Smith.
Janice is survived by her daughters, Kristina (Tom) Richards of Carrollton, Missouri, Shelley (Tom) Steffens of Spirit Lake, Iowa and sister, Lois Bundy of St. Joseph, Missouri; five grandsons, Aaron (Kristina) Richards, Adam Richards, Tanner (Brittany) Logan, Austin Bare, and Isaac Brichta; three great grandchildren, Adalynn Richards, Oliver Bare, Lana Logan.
