Wanda Blair

Wanda J. Blair, the daughter of Melvin E. and Winifred L. (Prunty) Swanson was born on November 1, 1945, in Cherokee, Iowa.  She received her education and graduated from Sutherland High School.  Later she received her education in nursing and became a licensed nurse.  She began her nursing career in 1982 at Cherokee Mental Health Institute in Cherokee, Iowa and was there until her retirement in 2008.  She lived in Cherokee until moving to Sutherland in 1996 where she made her home until passing away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, surrounded by her family.  She reached the age of 77 years, 8 months, and 18 days.
Wanda was a wonderful mother who dedicated her life to the happiness of her three girls. She had the type of personality that drew people in. She had a wonderful sense of humor and her laugh was contagious. She was welcoming toward others and never seemed to meet a stranger. She was an avid crocheter, knitter, seamstress, and reader. She loved to travel. She loved meeting new people from various walks of life. She was a loyal friend and a loving sibling to her family. She was loved by many and will be sorely missed by the people whose lives she’s touched.
Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Taunia (David) Faust of Calumet, Tarsha (Michael) Shannon of Sutherland, and Chantel Blair of Sheldon.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Camron and Julian Blair, Trenity Shannon, Ethan, Tavian, and Sophia Faust, and Alleynah and Kemo Scales. She is also survived by her siblings, Norman (Mary) Swanson of Primghar, Gail (Grace) Swanson of Sutherland and Lyle (Donna) Swanson of Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law, Jean Swanson of Springfield, Missouri; also, other relatives and friends.
Wanda was preceded in death by her son James Blair, her parents, Melvin and Winifred Swanson, brothers, Neil Swanson, Doug (Carol Jean) Swanson, and Rodney Swanson.
