PAULLINA CITY COUNCIL July 6
The Paullina City Council met in special session for a public hearing per Title III, Ch. 3, section 10.10 Impoundment & Disposition of Vicious Animals on Thursday, July 6, 2023 in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 127 S Main St, Paullina, Iowa. Mayor Brenda Ebel Kruse called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call. Council Members present: Steve Heeren, Jay Jones, Jean Unrau, Carol Honkomp, Lexy Murphy (by phone). Mayor Ebel Kruse declared a quorum.
Also present: Police Chief Nathan Bremer, Deputy Clerk Michelle Wilson.
Guests: Anthony Erickson, Abby Hansen, Matt Dengler. Press: Radtke.
Motion by Unrau; second by Honkomp to approve agenda. All ayes. Motion carried.
Council led & heard discussion of 7/1/23 event at 304 E Greene St regarding 10 chickens owned by DJ & Abby Hansen that were killed by 2 Husky-type dogs owned by Anthony Erickson of 315 S Clark Street. His dogs were at large & breached the chickens’ enclosure. Police Chief Bremer shared photos. Erickson asked for enough time to have his sister drive from the state of Delaware to rehome the pair.
Motion by Murphy; second by Unrau to determine the two Husky-type dogs meet the Ordinance’s definition of “vicious” and direct an order to be dated Monday July 10 for the required removal of both dogs from City limits prior to Thursday July 13, 2023 or they will be impounded at the Hartley Vet Clinic for 7 days before destruction would be ordered. Roll call: Ayes: Steve Heeren, Carol Honkomp, Jay Jones, Lexy Murphy, Jean Unrau. Nays: None. Motion carried.
Motion by Murphy; second by Heeren to adjourn at 6:09 p.m. All ayes. Motion carried.
