South O’Brien was leading Cherokee 9-1 after just two innings of play and looked to be heading into a run rule finish, but let the Braves hang around long enough to get back in it and then handed the win over with four errors in the sixth inning when we allowed nine runs. The Braves did hit the ball pretty well in the sixth, but we have been talking all year about making the routine plays we can make. We can’t do anything about the hits. We also did not do our job early on offense and finish this game before it became a game. The final score June 29 at Paullina was 13-11.
Shay Hatting started in the circle and went 5-1/3 innings, giving up six hits and five runs (three earned), walking five, hitting one batter and striking out four. Brooklyn Edwards came in for the final 1-2/3 innings and gave up six hits, eight runs (six earned), and walked two. As for our hitters, Payton Farquhar, Jinger Nieuwenhuis and Edwards all had two singles apiece. Nieuwenhuis’ courtesy runner Kelsee Warnke also scored three times. Edwards got credit for an RBI and her courtesy Avery Halverson scored a run. Reese Farquhar pounded a two-run double. Marissa Ebel had three RBI’s and scored twice along with hitting a single. Maddie Johnson hit a single, had an RBI and scored two times.
