Over 100 Hundred Year Old Flagpole Returns To General N.B. Baker Library
On Saturday, July 1st the restored flagpole that has overlooked Sutherland for more than 100 years was returned to its place atop General N.B. Baker Library.
Over the past year the board of trustees and other volunteers held a Flamingo fundraiser to raise funds for the restoration of the flagpole. In addition to the fundraiser a grant was received from the O’Brien County Community Fund to install lighting for the new sign in front of the building and both flagpoles, along with the hardware needed to properly fly a flag on the restored flagpole. The current plan is to only fly the flag off the the flagpole for special occasions.
The restoration of the flagpole was done by Stacy Crane Service who also removed the flagpole from the building and replaced it after the resoration was complete.
Without the work of board members and volunteers and the many generous donations received the restoration of the historic flagpole could not have been achieved. It will serve the library and the community for years to come.
