Veniece A. Young

Veniece A. Young, 93, of Cleghorn, Iowa, passed away Tuesday morning, June 13, 2023 in the Heartland Care Center at Marcus, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor David Hall and Pastor Don Riepe will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa at 2:30 p.m. the day of the service. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Veniece was born on January 15, 1930 on the family farm in Paullina, Iowa to John and Mary (Ebert) Miller. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1947. She was a cheerleader and participated in basketball.
She was married to Clark Skaggs and raised four children, Diana, Dennis, Mary Jo, and Lisa. She worked as an inventory control clerk at Wilson Foods in Cherokee from 1967 – 1985. She was later married to Harry Young in 1985 at Cherokee, Iowa. Harry and Veniece moved to Los Altos Hills, California. Following Harry’s death in 1999, she returned to her home in Cleghorn.
She enjoyed her church ministry providing birthday treats monthly to Midwest Christian Children’s Home and serving at funerals. Veniece was a part of the Cleghorn Seniors group and liked playing cards in her Card Club. Her hobbies included bowling, golfing, riding her bike, walking, traveling, baking, and shopping.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Miller; spouses, Clark Skaggs and Harry Young son, Dennis Skaggs; son-in-law, James Johnson; siblings, Vernelle (Eunice) Miller, Clifford (June) Miller, Mildred (Roger) Van Dyke, Leland (Eleanor) Miller, Verlie (Bill) Yockey, Eldon (Ruby) Miller, and Vera (Hank) Stoltze.
Veniece is survived by her children, Diana Johnson of St. John, Kansas, Mary Jo (Don) Riepe of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Lisa (Brian) Caldwell of Mapleton, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Bonnie (Larry) Prell of Larrabee, Iowa; stepchildren, Ron (Gloria) Young of Los Angeles, California, and Linda Smith of New Market, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Louis Johnson, Heidi (Scott) Hennen, Alan (Jenni) Skaggs, Wendy (Tim) Ellison, Kyle (Megan) Skaggs, Lanaye (Joey) Owens, Jayson Riepe, Stephanie (Corey) Jaeger, Brad (Wendy) Caldwell, Laura (Devin) Douvier; 2 step grandchildren, Matt (Jessica) Young and Evan Young; 19 great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.
