South O’Brien wins close one over Sioux City West
Sioux City West was the visitor on the scoreboard and jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. South O’Brien came roaring back with six runs of their own in the bottom of the first! This was great to see us respond like this after getting down right away. In the second inning we scored two more runs to make the score 8-4 in our favor. Sioux City West got a run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to make the final score 8-7 with South O’Brien coming out on top.
We had some aggressive baserunning and capitalized on some of their errors. We only had four hits in the contest. Reese Farquhar was our leading hitter with a single, a run scored and three RBI’s. Also hitting singles were Payton Farquhar, Jinger Nieuwenhuis, and Lindsey Einck. Payton also had an RBI and scored a run while Einck scored a run and Nieuwenhuis’ courtesy runner Avery Halverson scored.
Tawni Wulf started the game but only pitched to three batters when Shay Hatting came in. She gave up eight hits and five runs, but got the win. She walked five and struck out one. Brooklyn Edwards came in for the last inning to get the save. She gave up one hit and hit one batter.
