South O’Brien FFA members Grant Wanger, Abby Stout, Kyan Kruse, and Payton Farquhar performed with the State FFA band at the State FFA Leadership Conference during the morning and afternoon sessions on April 18th. These four practiced with other FFA band members from around the state for around four hours each day on April 17th and 18th. They were given the music beforehand, so the practices were spent cleaning up those pieces for the Tuesday performances. They also learned multiple marches that they performed during the presentation of the flags at the Tuesday morning session. This was the first year participating in the band for all four members, but were all happy they decided to play with the group. The four had competed in contests during past state conventions, but decided to play with the state band this year instead. Stout said, “It was fun to meet people from other FFA chapters who enjoy band as well.” Stout recommends State FFA band to other FFA members because, “It is good to learn teamwork and how to work well with others, especially people that you’ve never met before and to all bond over a common goal.”
