Wolverines finish fourth in Boys Golf Sectional
South O’Brien hosted the Class 1A Boys Golf Sectionals at Primghar Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, May 9. Some cool, damp weather in the morning, a 30-minute lightning delay, and some steady rain didn’t stop the teams from getting the meet finished. Gehlen Catholic and Kingsley-Pierson earned the top two team placings and move on to the District Meet on Monday, May 15, at Willow Creek in Le Mars. Trinity Christian’s Alec De Boer and Spencer Sprock from George-Little Rock will also move on as individuals.
South O’Brien placed 4th, above War Eagle Conference foes MMCRU, Trinity, and Harris-Lake Park. Sophomore Derek Paulsen led the Wolverines with an 88 (46, 42) and finished 16th. Senior Dylan Strubbe finished 19th with a 91 (45, 46). Other scores for the Wolverines were sophomore Carter Halverson with a 98 (46, 52), David Bottjen with a 101 (51, 50), Keaton Sampson with a 103 (46, 57), and freshman Alex Griebel with a 104 (51, 53).
“I had hoped our top four would find a way today on our home course, but we really faced some tough competition,” commented South O’Brien coach Kris Faust. “We have one junior and three underclassmen as well as three others on our team that have gained some valuable varsity experience this season, so the future looks bright.”
